Nowadays, Licence Management is one of the most costly tasks in terms of time and labor for the administrators. On the one hand, companies expend efforts to avoid licence violations caused by sublicencing. On the other hand, they want to avoid unnecessary costs caused by over licencing.
An independent study by Deron and The Fraunhofer Institute shows that: An automatic inventory reduces the administrative expense and is profitable from 20 clients onwards. The DeskCenter Management Suite allows the control and the management of licences of operating systems and applications. Thereby, the Email Notification System informs the user about installations and uninstallations of software products after every system inventory.
Rule-Based Product Identification
All software products installed on the client are detected during the software inventory. Using flexible inclusion or exclusion rules for applications, file scan or OSs you can register all products in the company that have to be licenced. Freeware can be identified unambiguously and also managed using this rules. This includes drivers, freeware or Windows Updates. Sub and over licenced products are highlighted in color in the overviews.
Automatic Product Identification
The automated product identification database contains about 20.000 data sets having up to 60 rules per software product. It applies for software products that are subject to licence as well as for freeware products and allows complete SAM Audits in a few clicks. Thereby, the vendors of the products are detected. This allows you to get an overview on all products and their licences installed in the organization within a few minutes.
Combination with Software Delivery
The Licence Management of the System Manager is a very flexible basis for the module Software Delivery. With the help of the Software Delivery, installations can be executed out of the licence overview.
To use the added value of MSI packages more effectively (Install, Repair and Uninstall), the DeskCenter System Manager identifies products that were installed by the MSI by a separate entry.
Licence Contracts and Groups
Often, there are different licences for one application. Licence agreements can be partly limited in time. The DeskCenter System Manager meets these requirements because you can add many licence contracts for each software product. The DeskCenter Management Suite supports the creation of licence groups (e.g. Office 97, 2000, 2003 -> Office Select Licences).
Scanning Files
Often, administrators have no influence on licence violations that are made by the employees in the company. This happens if users install software products without being noticed.
The DeskCenter System Manager offers the possibility to do configurable file scans. The administrator can also scan for MP3 or video files that are not allowed or consume memory space needlessly.
