Growing IT structures require more and more applications. Besides defined standards inside organizations in the area of system software and office applications, many business sectors need their specific individual applications.
The answer is a centralized and automated Software Delivery. The DeskCenter System Manager offers a very flexible solution to deploy software packages in organizations. Besides the deployment of standard setups, Thinstall and Xenocode packages the DeskCenter Management Suite also supports the installation of Microsoft Installer packages (MSI).
Thereby, software cannot only be deployed, but software packages can also be removed or defective installations can be repaired.
Overview of functions
- Installation of standard setups, Microsoft Installer (MSI) packages and service packages
- Distribution of software with system rules
- Rules enable install, uninstall and update of software packages
- Definition of installation libraries in software packages
- Organization of software packages into software groups
- Complete support of all MSI functions like installation, repair and uninstallation
- Powerful integrated editor to define installations
- Employment of redundant distribution points for software packages
- Effective control of available bandwidth to software deployers
- Integration of script actions on the base of the Windows Scripting Host
- Detailed status display in the SDI agent
- Cache for software installations
Automated installations by rule systems
The DeskCenter Management Suite supports the most common methods of deployment: installation of MSI packages, standard setups and drivers over INF files. Different installations can be combined in an installation package. Using system rules, software packages can then be installed, uninstalled or updated. If requirements of systems change or new systems are added, predefined rules are activated automatically to install the contained software. For MSI packages, Thinstall packages and standard setups on the base of MSI (e.g. service packs) there is also a comfortable editor included that covers all MSI parameters.
Time and bandwidth control
If required, installations can be set up time controlled. Users might also influence installations actively if this is wanted. For every installation setup, the bandwidth can be checked.
Support of scripts
All installations can be combined with script action on the base of VB Script using the System Manager. This allows making configurations on the system before or after the installation. Scripts can access several data values from the DeskCenter System Manager over variables. This makes user and location specific installations possible.
Redundant software depots with cache function
For the installation of software packages, the System Manager uses redundant software deployers. This means network permissions or URL paths. This makes installations to different sites more effective and smaller sites do not need an own server as installation resource. If required, installation resources can be stored to the client intermediately. Hence, no further access to the software deployer is necessary to install more components of an application.
